This is a wonderful book just full of the old-fashioned stuff that stirs up hazy memories of Mom's or Nana's kitchen "back in the day." I happen to have a small collection of some of these linens such as tablecloths, pot holders, hot pads, and dish towels squirreled away in a cabinet where no one ever sees them but me. How dumb! This book has given me the impetus to get them out and start using them, or at least displaying them. I love the aprons in particular. They're so dainty and feminine looking, nothing like the big barbeque ones people use these days. The author has lovely pictures of pretty ladies' handkerchiefs too. I remember my mother always having one tucked in her pocket or purse. My grandmother had crocheted the edges. Poring over this book is like a time trip back to the forties or fifties when these kinds of things were an important part of a woman's life. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves nostalgia items that bring back pleasant memories of days gone by.
This book was so fun . It has great pictures and gives the deliciously hilarious history of the lowly kitchen linens It was captioned and signed by the author for a neat added touch. This was a fun read and a great reference book. I arrived in mint condition was well packaged and delivered quickly.
even has transfers of vintage designs for your crative use! very cool and comprehensive with many pictures as well as interesting insights!

This is such a charming work. EllynAnne Geisel has put together a delightful collection of photos, stories, reminiscence, recipes, and her own engaging commentary along with pictures of the kitchen and table linens in her collection and the collections of friends. Anyone who is interested in fabric, hand sewing, whimsey, and nostalgia for our mid-20th century homes will fall in love with The Kitchen Linens Book. I bought one for myself and one as a gift, and believe me, it's been a hit in both cases. In the words of a hand embroidered bib I had as a toddler, "More Please".
This book will make you nostalgic! and i'm only 29! Perhaps it just reminds me of my childhood at Grandma's? She kept all of her Mother's needlework (pillowcases, dresser scarves and kitchen towels). The book contains a lot of pictures and history. I saw a little tea towel picture that I loved, so I make the image bigger and MADE my own towel.
What a sweet little book on vintage kitchen linens, some from the author's own collection. So inspiring to collect little pieces ofAmerican housewifery, and to create your own for future generations! Wonderful history lesson with fabulous examples shownand a bonus vintage iron-on collection from Butterick~ LOVE IT!
I had expected more facts about the history of linens and the types of linens over the decades. This book is good, but handles the subject of linens more on a personal level than factual. The print is hard to read and the layout is confusing, but overall this is an enjoyable read.
